Work is well underway on the conservation of the Union Chain Bridge with plenty of activity onsite. Follow this link to our Conservation pages for a stunning video showing the progress that has been made since work started in October.

Having established the main site compound and satellite compounds at either end of the bridge work commenced on the construction of piled foundations, ground anchors and temporary towers to support an aerial ropeway.

This ropeway will be used to carry access gantries and a cable crane which will be used to completely dismantle the bridge so that every component can be inspected and refurbished before the bridge is re-assembled. In preparation for the dismantling work, has commenced on the removal of the bridge  deck panels.

We'll be posting regular updates of progress on the bridge's conservation so keep an eye on our blog to keep up-to-date.
