December Update

See the latest conservation update from the Union Chain Bridge site in this stunning video.

The footage shows the incredible aerial ropeway system that will carry access cradles over the bridge. This will allow workers close access to all elements of the bridge structure during dismantling. The system ensures that contractors do not need to work from the River Tweed.

Other works recently started include the construction of a steel frame access tower immediately in the front of the English tower which will be used to carry out the essential masonry repair works and to provide access to the top of the tower for the installation of new rock anchors which will strengthen the structure once re-built.
