February Update Part II
The latest video from site shows the progress of the Union Chain Bridge’s conservation and provides spectacular views of the bridge and its surroundings.
Work is almost complete on the removal of the handrails, timber deck and chain hangers.
The bridge is constructed in 6 metre long bays and The Spencer Group have been working sequentially from the English bank to Scotland removing the handrails, timbers and chains, in their entirety. This work is being undertaken using the access cradles and platform, suspended from the aerial ropeway.
The next step, which will be a major milestone in the bridge’s conservation, is the removal of all of the suspension chains.
