Work is well underway on the conservation of the Union Chain Bridge with plenty of activity onsite. This video shows the progress that has been made since work started in October and shows fantastic aerial footage of the bridge and aerial ropeway construction.
Having established the main site compound and satellite compounds at either end of the bridge work commenced on the construction of piled foundations, ground anchors and temporary towers to support an aerial ropeway.
This ropeway will be used to carry access gantries and a cable crane which will be used to completely dismantle the bridge so that every component can be inspected and refurbished before the bridge is re-assembled. In preparation for the dismantling, work has commenced on the removal of the bridge deck panels.
